Haikuthon Summer July 2009 by ~boundlessgravity:iconboundlessgravity:

1.

munching a cucumber,
      writing bad poems
      by morning moonlight.

2.

       a hot day--
wet spots from the old dog
         bless our feet.

3.

                    leaping & hopping
before the moon rise --
no shadow! (no shadow!)

4.

the fireworks start--
she takes a mobile call--
    i finish-- detached.

5.

    summer, sun -
turning to rice paper from the top -
      the fletched grass.

6.

evening on Hobart bluff:

  winds,
draw us together
        lost to the world

7.

abortion test:
  nobody eats
  the black jellybean

8.

              my skull skin tense
  on an oddly cool night;
            an earful moon.

9.

fibonacci snail
sun-cooked in the shell;
kitten snack--crrrrunchnums!

10.

picking a foxtail
from the corner of a dog's eye;
blink, coffee, summer.

11.

the cairn i left
                             is now
the bottom of the stream.

12.

build more guns,
grow fatter on butter:
my nation commits to wars!

13.

morning gag-
the fog of dog piss-
what an odor!

14.

  young straw spider,
between monitor and pens
  a web don't catch much.

15.

a late thunderstorm;
nightcrawlers vomit downpours
   onto cooling streets.

16.

no same river;
blue skimmer dragonflies,
reflecting their hearts.

17.

just a toe --
she arcs to test the creek --
a tree cathedral.

18.

plucking one blossom;
it won't hurt forever;
evicting another...

19.

late afternoon:
my neighbor's shed
creaks with wind.

20.

magenta bonnets;
     on the sweet peas;
sun meets morning!

21.

single notes:
my neighbor's porch bell
in the summer wind.

22.

confetti and cases
leaves triage samba
ribbons on the ground.

23.

blackberry bramble
extending a tendril
             across
    a pile of cuttings.

24.

your earrings' glow;
loose pregnant strawberries;
remind me, quarter moon.

25.

evening meadow:
  my best friend returning
  with a canful of grasshoppers.

26.

    out of bibles
we place our hands
on sun-warmed earth

27.

  a wedge of moon:
white dragon coming
         free of her shell.

28.

  hills growing less
shadowy in wildfire haze,
  distinct with lightning.

29.

              spontaneous joy;
first songbird exploding
   off the maple branch.

30.

knowing
the first was a hump day
i found today's date.

31.

reaching up, up
staining my fingers,

finding you
the best blackberries.

I like the alliteration in the last line. This has a nice, calm feel to it. Good job. =)

Of all of the things I need to say, all of these words are in my way.

I like how personal and straightforward it is. Although, your start to the month could be seen as self-deprecating.
:iconanavah:
I love morning moonlight and the emphasis on form. Well done. :)

No need to thank me for "Faves" or Watches; however, if you feel the need, please do so in my Shoutbox.

Thank you.

Mmmm cucumber...

Not sure how necessary the preposition is in the last line, otherwise I like it. :)

Good luck with the rest of the haikuthon! :highfive:

Hahahahahaha - I like this a lot!!! Great little humorous piece and a good way to start.

Hah, I like this one. It's funny, not bad at all :P I like the way you set it up visually too. Looking forward to rest of your poems :)

Ooh, I like 'morning moonlight'... Reminds me of that time of night when you've been awake so long you don't think you'll actually get to sleep, and it's getting a bit light outside and there's birdsong, but the moon's still hanging there and you're tired out. And the humour in 'bad poems' along with the pretty prosaic choice of 'munching' for a verb works, I think. Enjoy the rest of the competition :D
:icontimeflies:
The allusion to the church in number two is nice, and brings into focus how often we overlook small blessings! I find this an interesting piece from that perspective and it seems like something that can also be explored much more in the future :)

It's good to see humor represented. :love:

I wish you wouldn't say "bad poetry" - you could instead say... "bad cucumber" ;)

just kidding :+fav:
